Özgür Mumcu: A Peace Machine

A writer and a journalist, one of the most distinctive critics of non-democratic practices in contemporary Turkey. He worked for the opposition daily: Birgün [Day], Radikal, and above all Cumhuriyet [Republic], the strongest voice of the secular left-wing opposition in Turkey. Born in 1977, a son of the famous investigative journalist Uğur Mumcu, who was murdered in 1993. He studied international law at the Sorbonne University and teaches at the Faculty of Law of the Galatasaray University in Istanbul. He was awarded the prestigious Right Livelihood Award for independent journalism. He is the author of Barış Makinesi [A Peace Machine], a fantasy-utopian novel about an invention that should establish peace on the planet.
